While looking through a book of "old-timey" songs, I came across an Appalachian folk song that gets played a lot when Bluegrass or Old Time musicians "jam" in the parking lot: "Little Maggie".
(The letters shown in the text are guitar/banjo/dobro chords. Yes, they are strange: It's called "Mountain Modal". )
(D)Over yonder stands little(C) Maggie
(C)With a (D) dram glass (A) in her(D) hand.
(D) She's drinkin' down her (C) troubles
(C) An' courtin' with (A) another (D) man.
(That got me to thinking, and Lord, I just couldn't resist !!)
Over yonder stands little Hillary
A - tryin' to look Heaven-sent:
She's practicin' her "Down-Home" drawl
An' runnin' for Pres-I-dent.
The first time ah seed Li'l Hillary
She was Radical as could be:
Had her right fist raised in a "power salute"
Yellin': " Set them Panthers free !"
Next time ah seed li'l Hillary
She was Bubba Clinton's wife :
Got the feelin' if she had her way
He'd be Pres-I-dent fer life !
Take heed, take heed all ye Voters -
Pay attention to the words ah said:
If you-all elect ol' Hillary ?
Yer gonna wish that you was dead !
